I just wanted to let you know that we thoroughly enjoyed all of tours that you arranged and to thank you for all of your great recommendations.
We had a very special and memorable stay at Bike and Tours with Simon and Tisha’s wonderful hospitality and we absolutely loved the food.
Thanks also for the suggestion to stay in Danum Valley. It was superb!
I will definitely recommend Olaf’s Borneo to friends looking to travel in the region.
Many thanks and best regards,
Michelle Boyle and family.
In August we had a very pleasant stay in Malaysia. It was well organized and very beautiful. We enjoyed the hospitality of the B&B in Lahad datu (from Simon and Tisha), the adventurous hikes at Tabin wildlife, the beautiful Island and sea life of Lankayan and our stay at the Kinabatangan river (and many boot trips) in Abai and Sukau.
We collected as promised a few photos:

We just returned from our Kinabatangan adventure on Sunday and both the Mintons and the Bowlers had a fantastic time. Everything went very smoothly and we were very impressed with SI tours, and the organization and the facilities they provided. We especially appreciated the transfer to Sukau/Abai by boat, and having spoken to people who made the journey by car we are very glad you recommended this option. Thanks!
I thought you might appreciate a little bit of feedback/info on our observations. Again, everything was fantastically organized, and we were very positive about our experience – just a few minor points:
Abai was fantastic. Since this was billed as the “village” stay portion of our trip, I was worried it would not be as scenic or peaceful as the Sukau portion – but to the contrary – I felt this lodge had more of a “jungle” feel. All the beautiful flowers attracted an amazing array of sunbirds, and there was even a wild orangutan in the tree between our cabin and the one next door for most of our first afternoon there! The circular boardwalks behind the lodge were wonderful.
The KRL was great, and the staff were very accommodating –but a wedding taking place next door meant it was VERY noisy in the evening with Karaoke going on until midnight or so. I guess this was an unusual one-off event – but one that might put some visitors off.
Basri was a Fantastic guide – very knowledgeable and very attentive.
The oxbow lake up in Sukau has been blocked off due to a log jam that occurred during the last floods a few weeks ago. It might be worth advising guests that this will not be on the itinerary until it is cleared somehow.
The tree planting was a great activity, and we were really glad to be able to do it with the kids. We were hugely impressed with all the community investment that SI tours is making in the Abai village area. However, I felt that this activity could have been even more beneficial to us and the kids with a little more formal explanation of how the project is run, what it’s aims are etc. This was explained to us as we were planting, and only because we asked questions. A little presentation beforehand would have been really useful. We also had our doubts about how effective the planting actually is as the seedlings/saplings are being placed extremely close together and there is evidence that many have been trampled by people coming to and from the area.
We much appreciated the free availability of coffee/tea and water in both lodges, and the use of soap dispensers with biodegradable soap rather than individually packaged soaps and shampoos. We wonder whether it might be possible to suggest to SI tours that they take this one step further, and, as is done in Danum Valley, they refrain from putting any plastic bottles in the room and encourage visitors to refill their own bottles from dispensers instead. This would eliminate another source of plastic waste.
We will be passing on your contact details to a few more friends here in Miri who are keen to do similar trips! Hope you and your family are well and enjoying the year of the Tiger.
Take care, Gianna (The Minton Family)

Dear Olaf, I and my wife, we spent about 3 weeks in Borneo, homestaying in Olaf’s home too. With Olaf’s help, i programmed my private tour going through almost all Sarawak and Sabah (Kuching, Lemanak longhouse, Pelagus rapid, Belaga, Gunung Mulu Ntl Park, Headhunters Trail, Brunei, Kota Kinabalu, Poring, Selingan Island, Kinabatangan River and more and more). Complex itinerary (my choice) with even difficult time requirements, but…. everything was perfect and delicious the food. The Olaf’s skill, his helpfulness, his floral and general knowlegde are outstanding. His honesty is straight out.
Thank you dear Olaf.
Sheila and I would like to thank you for the 3 wonderful days we spent with you. You were punctual, informative and always humorous. We can honestly say you made our trip worthwhile and will use your services next time we come and certainly recommend you to everyone

We are back in Holland again for over two weeks now. Just wanted to let you know that we had a great holiday. Thanks to your services, we were able to put together a perfect program, with great hotels and lodges, with the right balance between enjoying the sunshine, swimming and other water sports, shopping and fabulous day trips with you to the small Bajau fisherman’s village, Mount Kinabalu, the waterfalls and for a day rafting.
The trip you organized for us to Sepilok Resort, Abai and Sukau was just fantastic! Never seen so much wildlife: elephants (twice), Orang Utans, macaces, proboscis monkeys, alligators, snakes, hornbill birds, king fishers, big lizards and many more. The guide travelling with us was a very nice young lady, with great knowledge about the wildlife and everything to be seen in the rain forest. The organization was perfect, everybody was at the right place at the right time, luggage was handled for us, two attached lodges always available for us and the children, food and drinks were great, every cruise brought exiting news views and lots of wildlife often real close.
One suggestion: you said there are no leaches in Sepilok. Well, two of us had ” close encounters” with them during a night walk we arranged directly with a ranger in the forest (your advice). Suggest you ask “Granny” to make a few extra anti-leach socks. Must be a huge market down in Sepilok.
Thanks again Olaf for a great holiday. Please be assured that you will be warmly recommended by us to our friends.
